First Friday Concert: The Argus String Quartet
The first concert in the St. David’s 2016-2017 First Friday Series features this year’s Ensemble-in-Residence, the Argus String Quartet. Dedicated to reinvigorating the audience-performer relationship, Argus passionately engages in outreach programs within their own community and beyond. Their performances of standard repertoire are not only exceptional, but are paired insightfully with new and canonical works. Their artistry has been honored by appointment as the Fellowship Quartet in Residence at the Yale School of Music, and they have made appearances at Carnegie Hall, the Norfolk Chamber Music Series, and the Muziekgebow aan ‘t IJ in Amsterdam. On their Baltimore debut concert, Argus will perform an exhilarating program by some of the world's foremost composers for string quartet, including:
Wu Man - Four Chinese Paintings
Christopher Theofanidis - Visions and Miracles
Robert Honstein - Arctic
Garth Knox - Satellites
The concert is free and open to the public; a suggested donation of $15 ($10 students/retirees) benefits the musicians and the music series.
