Marc Irwin

Pianist, composer, arranger and recording artist, Dr. Marc Irwin (DMA, Peabody Conservatory) uses his diverse talents within the fields of classical, jazz, theatre, and world music. Marc Irwin presently works in NYC, Baltimore, and Washington, D.C. He is a pianist and musical director with the Capitol Steps, performing political satire throughout the United States and Canada. Marc has performed as assistant musical director and pianist in many productions at The Kennedy Center. In Baltimore, Marc can be heard performing regularly with bassoonist Phillip Kolker, soprano Elizabeth Hart, baritone Daniel Schwait, and Zemer Orchestras whose Israeli artists including Avram Fried. He has been involved in many productions at the Lyric Opera House, Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, and The Hippodrome Theatre. Marcs current group, the Marc Irwin Jazz Quintet, recently gave their inaugural concert in Manhattan at the West Side Community Garden opening their Music In The Garden series.

Marc will be joined by his nephew Ryan Lee, an up-and-coming jazz guitarist and bassist based in Richmond. Ryan has performed at venues such as the Charlottesville Pavilion, the Southern, the Paramount Theater, and the Broadberry, as well as many clubs in Virginia and Washington, D.C. He is a member of Gina Sobel and the Mighty Fine, which the Boulder Beat described as a band that feels like a midsummer celebration. As a member of the Mighty Fine, he has toured the east coast and recorded a full-length studio album, Burn Off the Dust, which upstreamad.com named as the number two album of 2014. Ryan studied jazz and classical guitar at Virginia Commonwealth University.

Marc has performed at An Die Musik for many years as soloist, accompanist, and conductor. He is very pleased to be returning tonight.
