Bread & Butter | A Group Exhibition

Bread & Butter | A Group Exhibition

Opening Reception for 'Bread & Butter" June 3rd, 7-10pm @ Terrault Contemporary

Michael stacks, Hannah layers and Dean preciously places. Together, they build their creations with a deep concern and attention to process. They paint for the journey, not the destination. All works included in Bread & Butter have a zany earnest desire to exist in a world which values symbols and systems over abstraction. While they each create their own worlds free of language, they constantly draw on imaginative elements--memories and dreams. The collision of color and line, sights and sounds familiar yet strange, helps them fuel their leap into sensory abstraction. Michael the compartmental stacker, Hannah all-guns blazing Leighton, and Dean careful-pastel-contemplator. Together they hope to surprise, excite and ignite their shared love of the artistic endeavor.

Leighton is an artist living and working in Baltimore, MD. She received her BFA last May from the Maryland Institute College of Art. (2015) Upon graduating college, Leighton spent a month at Green Olive Arts in Morocco where she studied painting. Post travels, she moved into an artist community where she has co-founded and directs Ballroom Gallery. Most recently Leighton has had a solo exhibition of paintings at DCAC and has sent four paintings to London, England where they will permanently reside. Leighton enjoys long strolls on the beach, and sitting on grass with her dog Figo.

Scott is a native Maryland resident and recent graduate from MICA (2015 BFA). After graduating he spent the summer painting in Umbria. He's currently living and working in Baltimore. Scott last showed at Terrault Contemporary as part of the group show "Play Hard," curated by Staver Klitgard. He draws his inspiration from travels, the city, and his fellow artists.
