Mindful Parenting: Strategies for Parents of Children with Special Needs

Practicing mindfulness (the act of paying attention on purpose and nonjudgmentally) has been shown to lead to several positive health benefits, including decreased stress and increased positive coping abilities.
This presentation introduces several simple practices from the mindful parenting literature to increase positive ways of coping with stress associated with parenting children with special needs.
Presenter: Laura Solomon, PsyD.Dr. Laura Solomon is a psychologist in the Pediatric Developmental Disorders Clinic at Kennedy Krieger Institute (KKI). She is interested in the clinical applications of mindfulness for children, caregivers, and professionals. She is also interested in working with children and adolescents with developmental disabilities and co-occurring internalizing disorders
